A shopping expedition to Belfast can include a visit to nearby Carrickfergus Castle, which dates from the 12th century, or to the village of Hillsborough, site of a Royal Residence and also of many fine antique shops. In Londonderry, too, browsing in the city centre for a bargain can be combined with a walk on the ancient mediaeval walls.
