We
at ADVENTURE DIVING have an intimate knowledge of, and access to,
a wide range of shore and off-shore dive sites. These provide both
excellent scenic and interesting wreck diving. We can also facilitate
SPECIALITY DIVING (eg : nitrox; close circuit; drift diving etc.)
SCENIC : There are many dramatic "drop-offs" and "wall" diving
opportunities. You can see close up an abundant marine life, including,
for example, cod, pollock, whiting, dogfish, conger eel, lobster,
and even the occasional seal. From a human point of view, there
are no predators. As for plant life, there are luxuriant kelp forests
and various species of sponges to be examined.
WRECKS : Over
the years, the rocky Irish coast and stormy winter weather have
claimed many vessels. Their wrecks today provide fascinating dives,
at depths which suit both beginners and more experienced divers.
To whet your appetite, here are the outline details of just a few
of them :
-
In 15m., in Strangford Lough, the wreck of a Second World War
"Liberty Ship".
-
At 20m., near the shore of Strangford, in Ringhaddy Sound, the
sunken launch of the Guinness family.
-
At 20m., in Belfast Lough, the wreck of an old banana boat.
-
At 30m.,in the open Irish sea, a former transporter, with its
cargo of monumental building stones still intact.
-
At 40 m, in the Irish Sea, 2 miles offshore, the last cargo vessel
to be sunk in the First World War. (Ironically, it had originally
been a German merchantman.)
-
Off Rathlin Island, two wrecks :one at 15m., of a Second World
War ammunition boat ; the other, at 33m., of a container vessel
-
Off the Donegal coast, at 60m.-70m, (a tri-mix dive for the more
advanced diver), a German U-Boot
SPECIALITY DIVING : ADVENTURE DIVING can also cater for those who
wish to take part in speciality diving, for example :
